* Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

* Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

* When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

* And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

* And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

* And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. [ Matthew 2:1-6 ]

* ஏரோதுராஜவின் நாட்களில் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேமில் இயேசு பிறந்தபொழுது; கிழக்கிலிருந்து சாஸ்திரிகள் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்து,

* யூதருக்கு ராஜாவாக பிறந்திருக்கிறவர் எங்கே? கிழக்கிலே அவருடைய நட்சத்திரத்தை கண்டு, அவரை பணிந்துகொள்ள வந்தோம் என்றார்கள்.

* ஏரோதுராஜா அதைக் கேட்டபொழுது, அவனும் அவனோடேகூட எருசலேம் நகரத்தார் அனைவரும் கலங்கினார்கள்.

* அவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியர் ஜனத்தின் வேதபாரகர் எல்லாரையும் கூடிவரச் செய்து; கிறிஸ்துவானவர் எங்கே பிறப்பார் என்று அவர்களிடம் விசாரித்தான்.

* அதற்கு அவர்கள் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேமிலே பிறப்பார்; அது ஏன் என்றால்;

* யூதேயா தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்லகேமே, யூதாவின் பிரபுக்களில் நீ சிறியதல்ல; என் ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலை ஆளும் பிரபு உன்னிடத்திலிருந்து புறப்படுவார் என்று, தீர்க்கதரிசியினால் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்றார்கள் [ மத்தேயு 2:1-6 ]
